Pfizer Australia Confirms Settlement for Drug That Caused Gambling, Sex Addictio

Pfizer Australia has confirmed it entered into a settlement agreement to compensate those individuals who claimed they developed gambling and sex addictions after taking a Parkinson’s drug developed by the company.  A court still needs to approve the agreement.

A Pfizer spokeswoman said: 'On that basis, Pfizer Australia is unable to make any further comment at this time,’ referencing the court status.

Studies have found that Dopamine agonist drugs were 277 times more likely to result in a report of specific impulse control symptoms than other drugs.  The symptoms tend to disappear once a patient stops taking the medication.

Parkinson’s is a degenerative condition that develops after nerve cells in the brain die, This results in a lack of chemical dopamine.
