A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a weekend shooting at Indiana State University that left another individual wounded in his buttock.

Calvin McCauley of Indianapolis has been charged with attempted murder.  Police say he and the victim knew each other.

Students were advised to remain in secured locations as law enforcement set up a perimeter around the area in which the shooting occurred.

“Our concern was the entire campus but I think we had to concentrate on (the Lincoln Quad) to make sure these people felt as safe as they could,” ISU Police Chief Joseph Newport said. “And then during the course of the night we made sure that there were a couple of updates as we developed information.”

A motive for the shooting involved gambling, law enforcement later revealed.

Both men were “rolling dice," previous to the incident, according to the probable cause.
