Congress May Consider Online Poker Exemption: War Should Quash Those Hopes

A Sheldon Adelson-backed online gambling prohibition bill, the Restoration of America's Wire Act (RAWA), is reportedly gaining some steam in Congress though the odds are against passage during the so-called “lame duck” session.

According to media reports, Bally Tech’s John Connelly was quoted during a recent conference that he expects a federal push to make “everything other than poker illegal” this November.

Politico last week reported that the bill’s architect, Adelson, met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over the summer and promised not to enter any of the Republican 2014 Senate races in exchange for Reid supporting RAWA.  That deal reportedly fell through after CNN reported that Adelson had planned to donate around $100 million on Senate races.

But Congress has more pressing issues to consider upon their return.  At the top of that list is how to deal with the growing ISIS problem in the Middle East.  During the late night hours of Monday, the US and some of its allies in the region began bombing Northern Syria.
