Swedish poker players over the years have become targets of enterprising criminals.  Last week, four armed bandits held up 15 players at a private game in Strömstad.  The victims in this case happened to all be Norwegian.

From PokerNews.com:

The robbery began as four masked men armed with guns forced their way into the poker game at the Hogdal Bygdegård farm. Robbers then forced the poker players to the floor before robbing them.

The robbers are currently on the run and no arrests have been made, but the Norwegian police and border control are on the lookout.

Tore Lomgård, head of the police investigation in Strömstad, told Swedish newspaper Bohusläningen, "It is quite obvious that the criminals knew the poker game was playing for money and they planned to rob it."

Gambling911.com has reported in the past regarding how a number of Sweden’s most prominent poker pros have become victims of extortion plots, armed robbery and even murder.

A gambler with ties to a Swedish motorcycle gang, the Bandidos, was accused of trying to hack into fellow poker player accounts in 2012.

In June of that same year a 23-year-old poker player was arrested after allegedly holding up another player at the Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg.

In 2009, the Swedish founder of PokerListings.com was murdered as part of an apparent contract killing.
