Despite winning the Super Bowl last year, the Seattle Seahawks odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl were longer than that of Denver at 7/1 (the Broncos were listed at 6/1).

And they didn’t just win the Super Bowl, they completely dismantled Denver.

So why would the Broncos be favored over Seattle?

The Seahawks will enter this season having had four key players go under the knife.  Strong safety Kam Chancellor and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin both underwent hip surgery.  Super Bowl MVP outside linebacker Malcom Smith had ankle surgery while offensive tackle  Russell Okung had a torn ligament repaired in his big toe.  All were expected to be able to start in Week 1 of the regular season come September.

Seattle does lose ten players who were on last year’s Super Bowl squad, six of whom were starters and nearly all nine had significant playing time.

There is a major distraction currently going on in regard to the Marshawn Lynch. He began his holdout Friday and is demanding an upgrade to his current deal that has two years and $13 million remaining. holdout.  We could see the Seahawks odds get a little longer as a result.

Lynch faces a $30,000 fine for each day he misses and partial signing bonus forfeiture if his absence reaches six days.

Still, the Seahawks are expected to win 11 games based on the total set by oddsmakers.  The OVER is favored at -115.
