BetDSI.com has some early predictions on the Baylor Bears chances for 2014 with odds being released on conference wins and regular season win totals here.

There are reasons to be optimistic about Baylor’s upcoming season as well as reasons to be concerned.

Optimism comes in the form of starting quarterback Bryce Petty.  He’s one of the best in the country, putting up big numbers last year.  Petty threw for 4200 yards and 32 touchdowns and his team went on to win the Big 12 title.

But there are concerns after one key player underwent major surgical procedures during the offseason.  Offensive line as left tackle Spencer Drango had offseason back surgery.

The Bears also have to replace two-time All-American Cyril Richardson.

Still, Petty does have plenty of weapons on deck.  Antwan Goodley, who caught 71 passes for 1,339 yards and 13 touchdowns a year ago, is one such weapon. Petty also has Levi Norwood, Corey Coleman, Clay Fuller and Jay Lee to throw to. The running game should be fine led by Shock Linwood and Devin Chafin.

On defense, the Bears improved dramatically in 2013, allowing 23.5 points per game.  Four starters do return.

BetDSI.com believes though that “the defense is likely not going to be good enough for the Baylor Bears to beat the Oklahoma Sooners for the Big 12 title this season but the team should still challenge for 10 wins and a big bowl game.”
