Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was unbeaten in his career until a disappointing effort against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September. Alvarez did bounce back to defeat Alfredo Angulo by 10th round TKO in March. Alvarez likes to win his fights by using his superior power. He won’t want this to go to a decision because Lara is the better boxer. Canelo also seems to be motivated to knock out Lara. “He’s a good fighter, but he talks a lot. He’s offended me.” Canelo said, “I’m going to have an answer for everything he has said. I’m going to shut him up once and for all.”
Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s)
Lara not only has power but he has some boxing skill. He has a more conservative style than Alvarez but he still has 12 knockouts in his career. The danger for Lara is that he gets pushed around by Alvarez in this fight and gets knocked out.
Boxing Picks
This is an interesting fight from a tactics standpoint as Alvarez is going to be aggressive while Lara waits for his chances. The problem with waiting against Alvarez is that Lara may not survive the onslaught. And it is also hard to see Lara winning a decision as Alvarez is the more popular fighter and Lara rarely gets much love from the judges. I will lay the price and look for Alvarez to get the win on Saturday.
