Australian investment firm KordaMentha forensic accountants crunched all the numbers and have arrived at a 2014 FIFA World Cup winner.  That would be Germany with odds around 5/1 at AceSportsbook.com.

Alex Bell led their analysis using a system first developed to rate chess players.

“It was a rating system originally developed in the 60s by a Hungarian physics professor and he used it to calculate the relative skill levels of players in chess,” Bell tells ABC Australia. “And that sort of system has been built on over the years to use in more complex team sports such as the NBA or baseball.

Inputting data including weather conditions, player rankings, age, form and past results, they're predicting another European winner.

Bell predicts a Germany vs. Argentina World Cup.

Additionally, the accountants at KordaMentha have even calculated how likely they are to be wrong.

“We've come up with what we think is statistically the most likely answer, but whilst Germany is the most likely team to win according to our analysis, it's still only about a one in four chance that they will actually win.”

Action has been flooding in on the host team Brazil.
