This week we learned that Toms River ranked number one on the list of Most Registrants signing up and playing on licensed New Jersey online gambling websites. The state’s second largest city, Jersey City, ranked 2nd.

There appears to be little rhyme or reason as to why certain New Jersey towns rank so high on the list.  The good news is that folks from Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken have managed to gain access.  There were initial concerns that those individuals located in border towns might not be able to register due to geo-location technology.  Regulators feared that residents of border towns in neighboring states might also be able to access without a mile or two buffer zone.

Not only have residents of Bayonne and Hoboken been able to join these sites, they also rank 14 and 4, respectively.

Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken are home to a large percentage of young professionals, many of whom work in the financial sector.  Toms River’s closer proximity to Atlantic City could have something to do with it having so many online gambling enthusiasts.

The user rankings were obtained from Caesars Interactive.

“We don’t have any rationale for why it is that the towns rank so high,” said Caesars Interactive spokesman Seth Palansky. “We have just strictly pulled the numbers for the first 100 days of operating in the marketing and that is what the data shows us. There is no linkage, special marketing or initiatives targeting (Hudson County) over others.”
