The first match between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley ended in controversy, as Bradley won a match by decision that many of the experts disagreed with. On Saturday night, Pacquiao gets a chance for revenge as the two fighters square off in Las Vegas.
In the first bout on June 9, 2012, Bradley was able to escape with the split decision, winning two of the cards 115-113 while Pacquiao won the third card 115-113. Many people thought that Pacquiao did enough throughout the fight to get the win, but Bradley did some damage in the later rounds that appeared to give him the win. Bradley won on at least two of the cards in four of the final five rounds, which proved to be the difference in the outcome. After getting knocked out in his next fight by Juan Manuel Marquez on Dec. 8, 2012, Pacquiao got back in the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Brandon Rios on Nov. 24, 2013. Bradley's most recent fight was a split-decision win over Marquez on Oct. 21, 2013. He was in control for the most part of that fight, winning 116-112 on one card and 115-113 on another card.
Pacquiao may have lost two of his past three bouts, but he won 15 in a row prior to that bump in the road, making him 16-2 in his past 18 matches. Of his 55 career victories, 38 of them (69%) have been by way of knockout, with the other 17 by decision. In his last bout, "Pac Man" was able to get back to his winning ways against Rios, controlling the fight from the very beginning. The Filipino fighter, who stands 5 feet, 6.5 inches with a 67" reach, has shown in his career that he has the ability to deliver a devastating knockout punch. However, Pacquiao's biggest strength is his cardio and the ability to wear his opponent out with his relentless attack. In the first fight, the 35-year-old Pacquiao had Bradley in trouble, but did not put him away when he had the chance. If this fight makes it to the championship rounds, Bradley will have another chance to get another signature victory.
"Desert Storm" Bradley has a put together an impressive resume in his career with victories against both Pacquiao and Marquez. While Pacquiao has shown the ability to win by knockout, the California-born Bradley is looking to use his incredible conditioning to help him win the match at the end of the fight. He has 19 career victories by way of decision, with the other 12 coming by knockout (39%). Going up against Pacquiao, the 5-foot-6 Bradley has to make sure to keep the fight under control, rather than allowing it to become a brawl. He showed in the first fight between the two that he has the cardio to go the distance against Pacquiao, but the reason why people think he should have lost that fight is because he got caught numerous times with vicious punches. The 30-year-old Bradley must pick his spots well in this rematch, and take the fight to the later rounds, where he can use his reach advantage (69") to keep Pacquaio at a distance.
