A Russian billionaire who won a gambling libel case in 2010 is facing possible EU sanctions following Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron issued the warning against Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich on Friday.
The EU has developed a blacklist of Russian officials and politicians subject to travel bans and asset freezes that is expected to include a total of 33 individuals, perhaps more.

"The EU approach, and the way it works under the laws that we have, is that you need to target people who have a direct relationship with the action that has been taken," Cameron said.

Abramovich has been described by Alexei Navalny, a leading Putin critic, as "the Kremlin mafia who pillage the nation’s wealth".

In the world of gambling, Abramovich made headlines in 2010 when false reports surfaced that the billionaire had a gambling problem that resulted in the loss of his cherished yacht.
