Just as a number of websites were set to launch an initial trial of online gambling in New Jersey, a blackout shut off power to a number of towns along the Hudson River.  Of course, there were questions as to whether the affected area would be able to access these sites considering their close proximity to the border.

Thousands in Edgewater, North Bergen and surrounding communities were left in the dark Thursday evening following a switch malfunction in a sub station in Ridgefield, according to PSE&G. By 6:45 pm EDT, PSE&G was reporting that 75 percent of its customers had regained power.

Still, much of the Garden State was ready to play provided they received VIP invites from the likes sites that were ready for Thursday evening’s soft launch.  UltimateGaming, which is partnered with the Trump Taj Mahal, and WSOP.com, which is partnered with Caesar’s Interactive.

“We are excited to be launching three of the most iconic U.S. gaming brands online for those inside New Jersey borders,” said CIE Senior Vice President Geoffrey Stewart.  “With industry-leading technology and the loyalty benefits of our Total Rewards and Action Club programs, we know consumers will quickly see why CaesarsCasino.com, HarrahsCasino.com, and WSOP.com are some of the best places to play online casino games for real money in the Garden State.  The fun and action found online will reflect what our players have come to expect from our land-based properties for decades.”

Heading into the 8 pm Eastern Standard Time hour there were glitches being reported at UltimateCasino.com with some customers reporting “program is busy” error messages.  The good news is that staff of UltimateCasino.com were corresponding with players via Twitter in order to rectify the technical issues.

MJDookway tweeted: “I'm liking this customer service”

Assuming all goes well and glitches can be fixed in a timely fashion, the full statewide launch is anticipated for this coming Tuesday, November 26.
