Poker pro Frank Kassela has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Oct. 24 to run as a Democrat in the 3rd Congressional District that consists of Henderson and rural areas of southern Clark County, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.   Kassela was once a Republican, changing his party affiliation on October 22, primarily citing his frustration with the GOP’s handling of a government shutdown.

He'll be going up against Erin Bilbray in the Democratic primary for the seat held by Republican Rep. Joe Heck.

Kassela, 45, moved to Las Vegas in 2008 from Tennessee.  He owns a company that sells nurses uniforms and hospital scrubs.

Kassela’s poker career includes more than $2.4 million in winnings, 50 cashes and 2 World Series of Poker bracelets.
