British Players Charged in Australian Match-Fixing Probe

London side Hornchurch players Reiss Noel and Joe Woolley have been charged by Australian police as being part of a match-fixing scheme. 

Both men had been transferred to the Southern Stars in Australia over the summer.

The match-fixing investigation was prompted by information provided by the Football Federation of Australia (FFA), according to the BBC.

"The integrity of football is paramount," FFA chief David Gallop said after the arrests were made.

"We provided information to Victoria Police within 24 hours of receiving an alert from our international betting integrity monitoring agents.

"We're determined to keep football clean. Alongside other sports bodies in Australia and globally, we must eradicate corrupt behaviour from sport."

Four others were also charged in the plot and have since been released pending enquiries.
