Anti-Terrorism Police Question 60 in Connection to Online Gambling Ring

60 Cambodians were being held in connection with running an online gambling ring that authorities believe could have ties to terrorism, though no specifics were given.

The Cambodian Daily reports that the ministry’s anti-terrorism police conducted raids and arrested 30 Cambodian nationals, 14 Malaysians, seven Indonesians, six Chinese, five Thai and five Vietnamese nationals for their involvement with the online casino.

“Right now, all my colleagues are questioning all the arrested people to find out what type of games were being played,” said Major General Y Sokkly, director of the anti-terrorism police department, declining to provide more details. “No one has been released.”

The suspects were believed to be gambling with international online Websites not based in Cambodia.  It is the first time that law enforcement in this Southeast Asia nation have come into contact with an online gambling ring, according to the Cambodian Daily.  Heavy bets were placed on football, authorities allege

It was not immediately clear as to why an anti-terrorism task force would be investigating the ring.
