The concerns for the Gamecocks, according to Scout.com:
The ground game works against everyone. The receiving corps is talented, and the quarterbacks are a plus, but they’re not going to be good enough to carry the offense to an SEC title. The offensive line is big, experienced, and knows what it’s doing, but it’s not great in pass protection and it’s not nasty enough on a regular basis against the better SEC defensive fronts. That has to change.
They point out that the rest of the SEC season could be an exhibition if the Gamecocks can’t get by the Bulldogs in the SEC opener.
As for the Bulldogs, Scout.com notes that we have been down this road several times before. Georgia looks good on paper but never seems to live up to expectations. Could this year be different?
Georgia has some weaknesses, but for the most part the pieces are in the right place – especially on offense - with talented young players looking to slide into openings. The schedule is only marginally tougher, with the LSU Tigers rotating in from the West, but that’s a home date.
It’s all there. Everything is in place for the program to take its cut and get into the BCS championship. Everything except for one more pass and those final few seconds of last year’s SEC championship game.
Georgia is due. Consistency might finally turn into a positive in Athens.
