The Aaron Hernandez jersey exchange started Saturday with lines wrapping around whole blocks in some cases. The New England Patriots, Hernandez’ former team, have only taken a slight hit in terms of future pricing to win the 2014 Super Bowl, down a half point at Bookmaker from +800 to +850.
Hernandez was charged with murder of a family friend last week. The Patriots are encouraging parents to swap his No. 81 jersey for that of any other player on the team.
"We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don't want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore," New England Patriots spokesman Stacey James said in a statement. "We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player's jersey will be well received by parents."
There’s a bit of a catch. The swap is only available to those who purchased the jersey via the Patriots' ProShop and PatriotsProShop.com.
