This week it was announced that Ultimate Gaming would begin offering real money online gambling to New Jersey residents through a partnership with the Trump Taj Mahal.  The Taj Mahal retains online gambling rights to the Trump name but the Donald himself may want to jump directly into the US-legalized Web gambling fray.

On Wednesday, Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who helps run his sprawling empire, discussed the prospects of regulated online gambling in the Garden State with one of his casinos taking the lead.

“Given the way online gaming is rolling out on a state-by-state basis, we really want to keep our options open,” Ivanka Trump said in an interview

Trump could sign a deal with one of his namesake casinos or another operator, she said.

Trump’s online initiative is complicated by the ownership of the New Jersey hotels, as Bloomberg News explains:

Trump Entertainment emerged from bankruptcy in 2010 with Donald Trump as a minority investor and no management role. A licensing agreement signed with the company that year left him in control of his name for online gambling, according to the agreement.

Trump's foray into online gambling might not sit especially well with one of the GOP's biggest donors, Sheldon Adelson, who in recent weeks has come out in staunch opposition to legalization.  Trump had considered a run for US President in 2012 on the Republican ticket.

All 12 New Jersey casinos met a June 30 deadline to seek state permission to offer betting online, according to Lisa Spengler, a spokeswoman for the Division of Gaming Enforcement.
