How Poker Pro Phil Ivey Could Have Cheated Casino

London’s oldest casino, Crockford’s, refuses to pay poker pro Phil Ivey monies owed for his winnings playing Punto Banco.  They allege Ivey cheated last fall.  He has refuted this notion and recently filed suit against Crockford’s, demanding his £7.3m in winnings.

A few weeks back, the Daily Mail demonstrated how Ivey could have cheated at the game, and this is purely theoretical as Ivey is innocent until proven guilty.

First, if the cards used during the game were miscut, they will have uneven diamond patterns and not look identical to the other cards when turned 180 degrees.

Second, a savvy player like Ivey might be able to spot such cards.

Thirdly, the croupier will deal the rogue cards.

Fourth, Ivy’s Chinese female companion could have persuaded the croupier to “turn the cards” 180 degrees.  The companion in question reportedly claimed that Ivey was superstitious and required the cards turned in such a way.

Lastly, Ivey may have recognized the cards in the next hand and placed his big bet.

Again, this is all speculation, however, the casino seems to have already drawn its own conclusion about Mr. Ivey.
