The NCAA has lifted a ban on games played in New Jersey following a judge’s ruling that the state cannot allow legalized sports betting.  Governor Chris Christie has vowed to appeal that ruling, however.

The NCAA had cancelled a series of championship games that were to be played in the Garden State this past year.

Undefeated women’s basketball team Montclair State (29-0) played the first two games of its Division III tournament in Pennsylvania.

The NCAA and four professional leagues including the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB filed a suit against the state in an attempt to prevent New Jersey from legalizing sports betting.

A federal judge upheld a 21-year-old law prohibiting sports betting in all but four state just days after Christie signed a bill into law legalizing Web gambling.
