All Eyes on Chris Christie as D-Day is Here

Today, February 7, 2013, is D-Day for online gambling in New Jersey.

Will Governor Chris Christie sign off on a bill legalizing what is currently a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide but technically remains “illegal” in the States?

Nevada has passed an intrastate law allowing for Web cardrooms.  New Jersey neighbor Pennsylvania is considering doing the same.

On Wednesday, Christie gave no indication which way he will go in terms of signing or vetoing the bill that sits on his desk.

“My due date’s tomorrow so my homework’s due tomorrow,” said Christie, referring to Thursday’s February 7 deadline date. “I have thoughts for and I have thoughts against and I have to reconcile those and I will when I have to turn my homework in.”

Many have speculated Christie could apply a conditional veto, which would require the bill to include one or more amendments to meet his approval.

The current bill did, however, address Christie’s prior concerns when he vetoed a similar measure nearly two years ago.
