New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Signs Mobile Gambling Bill Into Law

While residents wait to see if New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will sign or veto a bill to allow online gambling, he did sign into law legislation for mobile gambling at race tracks.

Christie pulled out his pen Monday, making it legal for customers at race tracks to place bets via their mobile devices including smartphones and iPads.  The tracks hope to attract more savvy young gamblers.

“It’s technology allowing the racing industry to reshape itself by drawing younger customers,” said state Assemblyman John Burzichelli, D-Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland.
The New Jersey Racing Commission will develop regulations to oversee mobile wagering, including safeguards to protect against underage gambling or cheating.
