Obama Win is Loss for Bookmaker William Hill

England’s biggest bookmaker, which recently began taking over some sports wagering operations in Las Vegas, reported a modest hit on Barack Obama’s winning re-election bid.

One client alone bet of £30,000 and ended up winning £67,500 while another Asian player staked US$30,000.

“We took over £1million worth of bets on the US Election for the first time and suffered a relatively modest five figure loss thanks to Barack Obama's supporters,” said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. “If nothing else, this election has proved that the bookies are a better guide to the outcome of the election than the pollsters who had it a far closer race than we did.”

William Hill does not accept wagers from players within the United States at this time.
