Despite legal opposition from four professional sports associations, including the National Football Association (NFL), New Jersey is forging ahead with licensing of sports betting operations beginning January, it was revealed on Monday.

The state Division of Gaming Enforcement published regulations for sports betting on Monday in the New Jersey Register.

Casinos, horse-racing tracks and joint ventures could begin applying for $50,000 sports pool licenses beginning January 9.  It was not immediately known what companies, if any, were looking to apply for such a license.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has vowed to fight the suit brought forward by the NFL, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and the NCAA.
