Don’t bet on Internet poker in California.  A bill to regulate the activity is about to die a quick death in the California legislature.  The man who helped draft the measure has said it himself.

Co-sponsor of the bill, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg had this to offer:  "Three-to-one odds that that bill has a 50 percent chance of passage.  And I would bet the under."

California Tribal casinos have expressed opposition to the current measure while the legislative deadline is coming by month’s end.  On Tuesday the Tribes sent a letter to the state Legislature asking that they not rush the online poker proposal through to meet the deadline and Steinberg seems content on waiting until the next session.

"I'm willing to help see it through if there's a bit little more of a consensus," Steinberg said. "We're going to probably give it one more shot in the next week or so to see if there's a way to break the logjam."
