The Casino Affiliate Program - better known as CAP - is said to take in hundreds of thousands of dollars through affiliate casino partnerships on a yearly basis. With all that money and success comes jealousy. That may have led to a raid on a CAP sponsored poker tournament in Barcelona, Spain this past September.
Barcelona police raided the Hotel Princesa in Barcelona where the tournament was being held and detained the promoters.
Gambling911.com is learning that the incident was no accident.
"Police were tipped off," a source told us. "They've pissed off a lot of the wrong people."
The source said that a "message was being sent out to one of the partners in CAP" but did not elaborate further.
It was not immediately known which of the individuals was targeted. A number of websites were tipped off as to what was about to transpire in Barcelona, however.
The incident appears to be unrelated to a poisoning of one online gambling operator who was attending that conference. He has since come out of his coma but is still recovering. An investigation is underway.
The online gambling industry has been reeling from fears of arrests - not just in the US but in Europe as well.
"There is a real fear that some of these conference organizers are acting irresponsibly and placing attendees in great peril," our source relayed.
