A software programmer with the now defunct online gambling website BetED.com have been sentenced.

Darren Wright and David Parchomchuk were caught up in a sting operation run by the US Attorney’s Office out of Maryland in May of last year.  Agents with that office set up a phone payment processing company and transferred millions of dollars in funds on behalf of BetED.

Parchomchuk plead guilty to running an illegal gambling enterprise.  He was sentenced to two years probation on June 8 and agreed to forfeit any claim to three bank accounts identified by law enforcement as part of their sting operation.  This was a formality of the case, and the court record indicated he was never in control of those accounts..  Parchomchuk had been facing a maximum five year prison sentence.  He also cooperated with federal authorities in providing information related to Wright’s role in the business.

Wright will make his initial arraignment appearance July 16.

Customers of BetED.com have yet to see a penny of their money and there appears to be little recourse.

In the DOJ’s eyes, they did not seize customer funds, rather the company’s funds, a spokesperson told David Purdum Sports on Wednesday.
