Opening Line & Total: Spurs -7.5 & 190.5

The Spurs will try to make quick work of the Clippers when they attempt to beat them for the second time in two days on the Staples Center floor.

San Antonio has won 17 straight games, going 15-1-1 ATS in the span. The Spurs have averaged 109.7 PPG on 51% FG during this ridiculous run, and have beaten L.A. by double-figures in all three games of the conference semifinals. The Clippers jumped out to a 33-11 lead after one quarter in  Game 3, but the Spurs won the next two quarters 58-28 (which included a 24-0 run) to win comfortably, 96-86. C Tim Duncan posted a strong double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) to give him 21.0 PPG and 9.3 RPG for the series. His teammate, PG Tony Parker, continues to outplay Clippers star PG Chris Paul this series. Parker has 17.3 PPG and a +75 rating, while Paul has 9.3 PPG (on 30.8% FG) and a minus-49 rating. Also note that in the second half of this season, San Antonio is 16-1 ATS versus teams who make 6+ threes per game and is 16-2 ATS against good ball-handling teams (14 TO per game or less).

With Saturday’s win, the Spurs were able to increase their NBA-leading road record to 25-11 (22-13-1 ATS). L.A. dropped to 26-11 (19-18 ATS) at home. San Antonio is 15-6 (13-7-1 ATS) with no rest, while Los Angeles is 10-10 (SU and ATS) in the second part of back-to-backs this season. The Clippers are a strong 21-10 SU (18-13 ATS) after an SU loss this season, but the Spurs are now a tremendous 44-12 (37-16-3 ATS, 70%) following an SU win.

Los Angeles has shot pretty well for a team that is down 0-3 in a series, making 47% FG and 51.2% of its three-point tries. But the Spurs are making 49.4% FG and 44.4% threes during the series. In addition to the heroics from Duncan and Parker, many other Spurs are getting into the act. SG Manu Ginobili has shot poorly from the field (39% FG, 6-of-18 threes), but has made 13-of-15 foul shots, while tallying 14 assists and just five turnovers. Starting SG Danny Green has a +47 rating in his 71 minutes, scoring 11.7 PPG on a blistering 57% FG (8-of-14 threes). SF Kawhi Leonard is also shooting lights-out. He poured in 14 points with nine rebounds on Saturday, giving him 11.7 PPG on 60% FG (6-of-10 threes) in the series. PF Boris Diaw (9.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG in series), PG Gary Neal (6.3 PPG on 47% FG in series) and C Tiago Splitter (6.0 PPG on 8-of-10 FG) have all contributed positive minutes in the conference semifinals as well.

Clippers PF Blake Griffin finally looked healthy in Game 3, keeping his team in the game with 28 points and 16 rebounds. He helped L.A. outrebound San Antonio 44-41 and match the points in the paint (44 for each team). Although Griffin now carries a minus-45 rating for the series, his offensive numbers are pretty good for a guy playing with a sprained knee (21.0 PPG, 8.7 RPG). The rest of the Clippers starting five shot terribly on Saturday, as Paul, SF Caron Butler, C DeAndre Jordan and SG Randy Foye combined for just 23 points on 10-of-30 FG. Paul’s 5-for-17 shooting night drops him to 30.8% FG for the series. Two L.A. reserve guards helped pick up the slack in Game 3 as Mo Williams scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Nick Young added nine points (4-of-10 FG) in just 18 minutes.
