The New Orleans Handicap is open to horses four years old and up, the race is run at a distance of one and one-eighth miles on the dirt. It currently offers a purse of $500,000.

This year’s favorite is Mission Impazible, who will be ridden by jockey Javier Castellano.  Mission Impazible could become the first Louisiana Derby winner to win back-to-back Handicaps.

“We’re celebrating the University of Kentucky getting to the Final Four,” said Randy Gullatt, one of the managing partners for the Twin Creeks Racing Stable that owns Mission Impazible. “And we just want to show our support.”
