Maine May Not Have Been a Win for Romney

It is beginning to look like yet another state got it wrong in the Republican primaries/caucuses.

First it was Iowa where one time Senator Rick Santorum was the eventual winner after several days of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney being touted as the victor.  Now we have Maine where it appears Texas Congressman Ron Paul may have beat out Romney.

Online gambling websites like Paddy Power, which offer betting on the individual state caucuses and primaries will find themselves having to refund customers while sucking up the losses on both Romney payouts, assuming Maine does not stand.

It appears that some towns votes weren’t counted and, with only a slim 194 votes that separated Romney and Paul, results are now being reconfirmed.

"We have worked diligently to contact town chairmen throughout Maine to reconfirm the results of their individual caucuses. These totals once confirmed will be posted on the Maine Republican Party Web site," state party chairman Charlie Webster said in a statement.

There were also a number of clerical errors being reported.
