In anticipation for legalized online poker in the state of Nevada, regulators released new draft amendments that include the ability for operators to cover funds in the event of a shutdown.

The agreement calls for a “federally-insured financial institute” to hold a reserve.

“I think player fund [protection] goes to a core responsibility we have,” Gaming Control Board member A.G. Burnett said. “With land-based operators facing uncertain financial times, that has been an issue of focus for us. We need to ensure that player funds are protected adequately and we spend a lot of time and energy on that task.”

Another new provision allows for casino players to engage in marketing representation.  This amendment permits poker pros to endorse the Nevada online poker rooms.

Bot usage was also addressed as part of the new drafts.  The new proposal includes the wording “reasonably” for ensuring that consumers be protected from bots, though most have acknowledged there is really no way to guarantee cheaters won’t find a way to enter an Internet card room at some point.

“I would hope that all operators would try to curtail players gaining an unfair advantage, and to especially stop any cheating activities,” Burnett said. “I think the term ‘reasonably’ is simply there so that the Board and Commission can impose a certain standard of care on them in that regard.”

The Board was holding an initial meeting on Thursday November 3 with the Gambling Commission scheduling a second hearing Thursday November 17 in order to review the new proposals.
