California Senator Lou Correa is urging that state politicians pass his SB40 online poker bill into law by year’s end and he has painted an apocalyptic picture for the state if they fail to do so.  Any delay could result in federal legislation being passed beforehand resulting in jobs being shipped out of California.  He referred to the federal initiative as “dangerous”.

Correa claimed during a Senate Committee hearing that legalized online poker would generate US$250m this fiscal year [and] help “avoid the triggers that will result in deeper cuts to education and other public services.”

He also warned that Nevada would position itself as the “national gatekeeper for national legislation”.

But Correa’s measure to legalize Internet poker might not be all that it’s cracked up to be.

As Gambling911.com reported last week, a provision was added to his bill that would hold California poker players liable for playing at unlicensed websites with the possibility of having one’s own home seized
