Merge Gaming’s couple dozen strong online poker skins will soon have the opportunity to obtain a license from the i-Gaming friendly jurisdiction of Malta in the near future.

The Mediterranean island nation sits just south of Italy and acted as a crucial haven in recent months for those escaping the civil war in Libya.

Anthony Taylor, CEO of Merge, said in a statement: “With more sites on the network making Europe their primary focus we believe the Malta license will help drive further network growth.”

Another US-facing brand, Cake Poker, is licensed out of Malta.

Beginning June 1, Merge stopped accepting new US customers for what was deemed a “temporary time period” in order to catch up with a backlog of check processing.  Merge experienced triple digit growth in the US market following the exits of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.  A handful of skins announced independently they would no longer accept US customers indefinitely.  Merge has yet to announce a date in which they will begin processing for Americans.
