Beginning May 1 (2011), Sportsbook.com will no longer be accepting new customers from the US. It will continue to allow current customers from the US to play, however, and affiliates will continue to collect their commissions for existing clients.
The decision came on Tuesday and it was not immediately clear how long this measure would be in effect.
The summer months are traditionally the slowest for US-facing online bookmakers though Sportsbook.com could lose out on a significant amount of action from new Kentucky Derby bettors.
Customers living outside the US will be welcome to join as always.
