Tiger Woods Close but no Cigar at 2011 US Masters: Odds Were 10-1

Five players were tied for second place at the 2011 US Masters, including four-times champion Tiger Woods who finished with a five-under-par 67 to post a 10-under.  Woods was called a “sucker bet” coming into this year’s Masters but nearly pulled it off with 10/1 odds.  Bookmakers quickly made Woods the favorite after an impressive Day One showing and fearing the heavy action still coming in on the popular golfer. 

“He’s likely to be back as a ‘favorite’ with the oddsmakers after this one,” noted Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

Charl Schwartzel of South Africa won the 2011 US Masters as a 60/1 long shot coming into the tournament.  On hole No. 17, Schwartzel drilled a long putt to give himself a birdie and the lead at 13-under.

He was not even among the favorites in the South African group as seen below (these were the odds coming into the US Masters Thursday):
