PokerScout.com reports that eight of the top ten online poker sites lost ground in the past week, contributing to a 3.3 percent decline in overall traffic.

The drop came despite the world’s largest online poker room, PokerStars, seeing a massive influx of players thanks to their 60 billionth hand promotion.

Despite a mid-week start, the promotion drove PokerStars traffic up 15% for the week. Day-by-day comparisons reveal that the true increase is closer to 30%, PokerScout.com reported

The previous milestone celebration, at 50 billion hands in September of last year, produced a traffic increase of approximately 12%. This time around the traffic boost is more than twice as large. The reason for the difference is not immediately apparent as the prize structures for the two promotions are substantially identical.

The Internet poker traffic monitoring website suggests that PokerStars “sucked all the oxygen out of the other rooms”.  Only Cereus reported a 1 percent gain.

Other movers:

888poker moved up two spots to 11th, trading places with IPN which slid to 13th. Ongame.it rose one notch to 14th place, edging past Winamax.fr. EverestPoker.fr and iPoker.it also switched places, with iPoker.it winning the battle for 16th. Merge Gaming Network jumped up three places to 18th, pushing Svenska Spel, International.it and Ongame.fr down one spot each.
