Grizzlies Gambling

The Grizzlies NBA franchise will now prohibit its players from gambling while in flight.  The policy went into effect following an altercation between O.J. Mayo and Tony Allen over an unpaid debt related to a card game.

Mayo allegedly refused to pay Allen $1,500 he lost during the card game and a physical fight broke out on board the flight back from Los Angeles to Memphis.

We’re in a confined airplane and things get heated. I’m done with it. No more gambling,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “I told my guys if they read a book, that would be good. They have to entertain themselves in a different manner.”

Mayo and Allen were not punished by the team for the incident, and GM Chris Wallace said in a statement, “The club considers the matter closed.” It’s not known whether the NBA will dole out its own punishment.
