Lucchese Wiretapped Conversations

New Jersey’s Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday released wiretapped phone conversations from Lucchese crime family members accused in a racketeering case involving illegal gambling.  In all, some thousands of hours of conversations were made available.

Deputy Attorney General Mark Eliades told the Newark Star Ledger that the conversations (made available on disc) involved 28,790 oral communications and 2,941 text messages, all of which were intercepted by State Police during a 15-month investigation.

34 defendants were indicted last May for their role in an illegal gambling enterprise authorities claim took in some $2.2 billion since 2007.  The investigation also claims to have turned up links between the Lucchese family and the “Nine Trey Gangsters Set” of the Bloods street gang.

Those named in the indictments included Ralph Perna, Nicodemo Scarfo, Jr., Joseph DiNapoli and Matthew Madonna.

Attorney for DiNapoli, Paul Chiaramonte, said he will be filing a motion seeking the make, model and serial number of the recording device planted in his client’s vehicle according to the Star Ledger.
