The San Francisco Giants World Series win paid out $3000 for anyone who bet $100 on the team prior to the season’s start.  Even in September, the Giants payout odds to win the 2010 World Series were good at 11/1.  In just five games, the Giants won their first World Series in 58 years.

The win occurred in Texas with the Giants scoring on a three-run homer by Edgar Renteria and a dominant eight innings from Tim Lincecum to defeat the Rangers, 3-1.

For the online bookmakers and those in Vegas, an abbreviated World Series was certainly offset by all those early futures bets coming in on the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies.  The bookies also made out on Texas being that they were the early favorites to win the World Series last week.

“It could be the closest World Series in years,” predicted Jay Kornegay last week.  He is the executive director of the Las Vegas Hilton Race and Sports Book. “It’s a fascinating contest between the pitching of the Giants and the hitting of the Rangers.”

The Yankees loss to Texas in Game 6 of that series also boosted bookies revenue.  That was the most watched game of the Major League season with 11.9 million viewers.
