Strong third quarter results are being attributed to the summer’s World Cup betting at Ladbrokes.

The company reported operating profits of £51.1million over this period and says it is on target to meet the year’s goals.  The numbers are up dramatically from last year’s £22.4million.

The strong performance comes at a time when punters across the board have reduced their average betting stake by 5 percent.

Chief executive Richard Glynn said: 'Ladbrokes has a great brand and a strengthened management team determined to drive operational improvements going forward.'

Ladbrokes is the United Kingdom’s largest bookmaker.
