NCAAF Florida Gators vs. Utah Utes Game Betting Preview, Props

The 2023 college football season officially began in what was billed as “Week 0” this past Saturday. Now, it’s Week 1, featuring some intriguing pairings starting Thursday evening.

It’s the Florida Gators visiting the Utah Utes in a rematch that’s been anticipated. Florida stunned then No. 10 Utah, 29-26, at home to start last season. Utah will have its sights set on revenge in this one.

Expectations are higher in Salt Lake City than in Gainesville. Here’s a preview…

Utes are Favored

It’s no surprise Utah is the choice, 6½ points with an over/under of 45½, according to college football odds. Looking at the moneyline, it’s Utah at -260, Florida at +210.

Gators Stopping Someone?

Florida ended 2022 with three losses in a row, having surrendered at least 30 points in each.

If the defense continues to rest, Florida can’t compete.

There are purportedly some pro prospects in the secondary, but untested youngsters playing in front of them.

It will be ex-Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz leading the Gator offense. Mertz had some success against Big Ten defenses, but this Utes’ team will be a bit tougher.

Coach Billy Napier might be on the hot seat after a 6-7 season in his debut in Gainesville.

Utah’s Questionable Quarterback

Utah finished 10-4 last season, It is entering 2023 at No 14, but with issues. Quarterback Cam Rising is trying to make it back after a torn ACL in the Rose Bowl loss to Penn St.

Obviously, not having Rising would be a huge blow to the Utes, even against the suspect defense of the Gators.

Utah, under coach Kyle Whittingham, is going to run the football regardless of who’s at quarterback, since its offensive line is tremendous.

There’s still some questions on the defensive side of the ball, but this team did stymie some of the better Pac-12 offenses last season.

Cooking at Home

That questionable status of Utah quarterback Cam Rising has affected the odds in this game. Regardless, there’s an offensive line that’s dominant, giving whatever quarterback plays time to pick apart Florida.

There’s no Anthony Richardson as quarterback in Florida, He’s now the starter with the Indianapolis Colts, replaced by Graham Mertz, ex of Wisconsin. There are too many issues on both sides of the ball with the Gators. They will get exposed in this one.

Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City is the place to be Thursday evening, but not if you’re a visitor. Take the Utah Utes at -6½, over 45½ as well.

If you’re into taking a shot, Utah is 60-1 (+6000) and Florida 200-1 (+20000) to win the championship, as per college football title odds.
