Representative Julia Letlow is a heavy favorite to defeat state Treasurer John Fleming in the Republican Louisiana Senate runoff election this weekend.
The oddsmakers at BetOnline show Letlow as a -500, or 1/5, favorite over Fleming (3/1).
Letlow is an academic administrator serving as the U.S. representative for Louisiana's 5th congressional district since 2021. Letlow is the first Republican woman to represent Louisiana in the House.
Fleming is a physician, and former naval officer serving as the treasurer of Louisiana since 2024.
Incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy, who voted to convict Donald Trump during his second Senate impeachment trial in February 2021, failed to advance to the runoff after the initial May primary.

The above odds indicate that Letlow has an 83% chance of advancing from the runoff.
Letlow announced she has received U.S. President Donald Trump's full endorsement for the upcoming election.
Louisiana residents have been bombarded with a barrage of attack ads from both candidates.
“I’ve had $15 million dropped on my head in negative ads, and I understand that’s why people won’t run,” Letlow said.
“I want a good economy for Louisiana, but there are things we have to do like lowering taxes, reducing insurance rates to get better business — not by a toxic dump of carbon dioxide,” Fleming said, referencing what he called “Julia Letlow and Jeff Landry’s method” of pursuing economic growth.
