January 27 Bowl Game Betting Previews, Props
The Virginia Tech vs. Tulane Military Bowl game line was coming in at Hokies -10.5. This one is difficult to bet in that the line opened at -4.5.
The Green Wave lost its head coach and that can certainly explain why they are now a much bigger dog here. Willie Fritz recently assumed the Houston head coaching job. Coaching changes, the transfer portal and bowl opt-outs have wreaked havoc on this year's bowl game slate.
Virginia Tech (6-6) should have been a PICK'EM assuming all was normal at Tulane (11-2) based on our numbers. The Green Wave will also be without a key offensive lineman, their top two leading receivers, and their quarterback Michael Pratt.
The Tulane defense has also taken a major hit with three defensive linemen out and two defensive backs.
Elsewhere, the Duke Mayo Bowl features North Carolina (8-4) vs. West Virginia (8-4) and a line of Mountaineers -6.5 after opening at -3. We get UNC 0.55, suggesting the wrong team is favored. An overlay of this nature tends to bode well for the underdog in the 3/3.5/4 range without going below the 3. And this one obviously wasn't going to dip under that number as it propelled towards the 7.
Once again though we have some missing pieces with UNC as Drake Maye and Tez Walker will not be playing for the Tar Heels.
The Louisville vs. USC line has moved from Cardinals -8.5 to -7. We get a number of Louisville 0.62.
Just like the above, we have a team that is losing a number of key players. This time it's the Trojans and this team is a mere shell of itself.
