Owner and breeder Aaron Sones,is quick to point out that his colt is the only one in this year’s field whose sire produced a Derby winner.

Now for the bad news.  The number one post has resulted in eight wins in Kentucky Derby history but zero victories since 1999.  No horse has won from the rail since 1986.

Trainer Paddy Gallagher said of the post position designation: “We’re in! He’s got no (early) speed. We’re fine there.”

Worse news still: No maiden has ever won a Kentucky Derby.
