Odds to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes had Dortmund at 4-1, priced similarly to Firing Line with a payout potential of $40 for every $10 bet.  Dortmund was the 3rd place finisher at this year’s Kentucky Derby.

Trainer Bab Baffert has both Dortmund and the Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah entering this year’s Preakness.  Both are racing from the number two and number one posts, respectively.

Baffert, who has gone 3-0 with horses winning both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, has made it clear he does not like the outside posts.

His response to the media in asking how he felt shortly after the post position draw: "If you had told me I could win the Kentucky Derby," he said, "but then my Derby winner would have to start No. 1 in the Preakness, I'd take it."

The outside posts tend to be more dangerous with larger fields, however.  This year’s Preakness only features eight horses.

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
