Gunnevera odds of winning the 2017 Kentucky Derby were at just shy of 10-1.
The Fountain of Youth winner last finished 3rd in the Florida Derby. He is a three-time grade stakes winner.
This is the first time trainer Antonio Sano and part-owner Solomon Del-Valle will be taking part in a race at Churchill Downs.
In a weekend workout, Gunnevera, galloped an easy mile over a fast track after the morning renovation break during the 8:30-8:45 window reserved for Kentucky Derby and Oaks horses.
“I liked what I saw this morning,” Sano said of Gunnevera, who arrived at Churchill Downs late Saturday night. “Tomorrow he will go a mile and a half and I plan to work Saturday morning.”
