Exaggerator Odds to Win the Preakness Stakes: Top Mudder With Rain Likely
  • Finished strong 2nd in the Kentucky Derby and led until the final seconds
  • Pimlico features a shorter track more ideal for Exaggerator
  • Won the all-important Santa Anita Derby in the mud with 90 percent chance of rain forecast for Saturday’s race
  • 23 years since the 2nd place finisher in Louisville came back to win the Preakness

Exaggerator had odds of winning the 2016 Preakness Stakes close to 4-1.

Following a loss to Nyquist, Exaggerator had changed his running style to be more suitable for the Kentucky Derby…and it showed.  He finished a strong 2nd at the Derby two weeks ago, falling behind in the final seconds to Nyquist.  Pimlico features a shorter track more suitable for this horse.

He also managed to win the all-important Santa Anita Derby.  Exaggerator won that race on a muddy track… and a mudder might just have the edge Saturday with early weather forecasts calling for a 90 percent chance of rain in Baltimore.

History doesn’t favor Exaggerator winning the Preakness Stakes though. It has been 23 years since the second place finisher in Louisville came back to win the Preakness, and only two horses in that stretch won the Belmont after running second in the Derby.
