The Del Mar Handicap is a Grade II race run 1⅜ miles on grass.  This year’s race features a $250,000 purse.

Dhaamer was expected to like the short distance of the Del Mar, providing him with a slight edge.

“I think the mile and three-eighths is better than a mile and a half,” said Phil D’Amato, assistant to trainer Mike Mitchell, speaking to the Daily Racing Form. “At a mile and three-eighths, you might expect a little more pace to run at.”

Interaction is trained by Ron McAnally.  He previously won the most prestigious race in South America, the 2009 Group 1 Carlos Pellegrini in Argentina.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
