Top Trending: British Horse Racing to Shut Down Wednesday
Wednesday September 10 will mark a first as British horse racing is set to shut down. This has never happened before. Scroll down for all of the latest gambling headlines and top trending stories here at Gambling911.com.
Jockeys, trainers and racecourses are set to stage their first strike, protesting a government review that could raise taxes on remote bets. The stoppage marks the first time the sport has voluntarily halted racing in its history.
Britain's Treasury is consulting on proposals to harmonise three separate remote betting duties, a move that the racing industry has said could lift the tax on horse racing wagers from 15% to 21% — in line with online casinos.
Britain's government said it had "no plans" to change a current tax exemption for bets placed at racecourses and that its wider review was aimed at "levelling the playing field and simplifying the system".
The strike is only going to be for one day with canceled races to be rescheduled at a later date. There is no indication that the strike will continue beyond Wednesday.

- Dallas Poker House Can Stay Open After Texas Supreme Court Declines City's Request to Review Lawsuit - A Dallas poker room can stay open after the Texas Supreme Court declined to review the city’s appeal Friday. The city’s head of building inspections gave Texas Card House, a poker room in northeast Dallas, a permit to operate in 2020. Then the building official changed course, alleging the business was running an illegal gambling operation and the city granted the permit in error. The high court’s denial of the case leaves in place a Dallas appeals court’s decision last year that the city must reinstate Texas Card House Dallas’ operating permits. (read more from KERA News)

- Gambling Tax to Remain Part of 'Big Beautiful Bill' - Nevada Democrat Congresswoman Dina Titus attempted to have the language removed that would now prevent gamblers from deducting 100 percent of losses. "Unfortunately, the GOP-controlled Rules Committee did not accept the FAIR BET Act as an amendment to the NDAA. This was an easy fix that should have been adopted. Nonetheless, I will continue to build support to restore the 100% gambling loss deduction."
Titus (NV-01), co-chair of the Congressional Gaming Caucus, today introduced the Fair Accounting for Income Realized from Betting Earnings Taxation (FAIR BET) Act that would have restored the 100% deduction for gambling losses.
“The recently passed budget bill included a provision inserted by Senate Republicans without consent of the House that imposed a tax increase on Americans who gamble by reducing from 100 percent to 90 percent the amount of losses they can deduct from gambling winnings for their income taxes,” Congresswoman Titus said. “My FAIR BET Act would rightfully restore the full deduction for losses so gamblers don’t pay taxes on money they haven’t won.
“This common-sense legislation will bring fairness back to gaming taxation, making sure that gamblers can fully deduct losses when they report their winnings. It gives everyone –from recreational gamblers to high-stakes gamblers -- a fair shake. We should be encouraging players to properly report their winnings and wager using legal operators. The Senate change will only push people to not report their winnings and to use unregulated platforms.”

- Cruise Ship Passenger in Puerto Rico Jumps Overboard Allegedly to Avoid $16,000 Gambling Debt - A man who jumped off a Royal Caribbean cruise ship near the Port of San Juan over the weekend did so allegedly to avoid having to pay a $16,000 gambling debt to the cruise line. He has been charged with a federal crime, authorities said. Jey Gonzalez-Diaz embarked on the Rhapsody of the Seas at the Port of San Juan on Aug. 31, according to a criminal complaint filed Sunday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. The cruise ship returned from Barbados on Sunday — when Gonzalez-Diaz jumped into the water as the ship disembarked around 9:15 a.m. local time, during U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspection, the criminal complaint said. Gonzalez-Diaz was then brought to shore by someone passing by on a jet ski, investigators said. The moment was captured on surveillance video. Diaz was later found carrying $14,600 in cash, two phones and five IDs.

- Greek Officials Accused of Laundering Money Through Gambling Companies - Greece’s Independent Authority Against Money Laundering has identified over 200 individuals who funneled undeclared money through gambling operators with several betting companies under investigation. At least ten licensed gambling firms are being implicated according to Greek Reporter.:
"The scheme reportedly relied on the use of betting accounts as intermediaries for cash deposits. Players would first create accounts with licensed gambling operators, receiving a unique code linked to their profile. Instead of depositing funds through standard banking channels, they allegedly visited small retail shops acting as agents—such as convenience stores, mini-markets, and gas stations—that were affiliated with betting firms. At these shops, customers handed over large sums of cash, which were then credited to their betting accounts. Once deposited, the funds appeared to have passed through a legitimate gambling platform. With a simple transfer, the balance—including the illicit funds—was moved to personal bank accounts under the guise of legitimate gaming proceeds."

72 hours (three full calendar days) before a final vote in either chamber. This means the earliest we can get this final vote is Thursday.
