Breeders Cup Classic 2017 Updated Odds, Post Positions

The post position draw took place earlier in the week for the 2017 Breeders Cup Classic with updated odds as a result now that we know who the entrants will be.

Classic

8:35 p.m. ET Saturday

1. Arrogate (2-1)

2. War Decree (30-1)

3. Win The Space (30-1)

4. War Story (30-1)

5. Gun Runner (9-5)

6. Mubtaahij (12-1)

7. Churchill (15-1)

8. West Coast (6-1)

9. Gunnevera (30-1)

10. Pavel (20-1)

11. Collected (6-1)

Arrogate drew the rail, which is not always a good thing.  Arrogate is North America's richest horse with more than $17.3 million in earnings.

He’s looking to become only the second horse to win consecutive Breeders Cup Classic races.

“Arrogate always seems to get the one a lot,” Baffert said. “He has it and you can't change. They're all spread out. I just didn't want them to all draw in next to each other. We have a long run to the turn. I like being on the outside better, but I've got a lot of good horses on the outside. It will all work out. They are spread out everywhere. It was a good draw for Collected, on the outside, West Coast is in a good spot there. Mubtaahij comes from off the pace anyway. At least there is separation there.”

Mike Smith, the all-time leading rider in Breeders' Cup victories and money won, will ride Arrogate
The winningest post position in Breeders’ Cup history. A total of 36 winners broke from gate No. 4.  War Story at 30-1 odds starts from that post position.

This year is the first year that Del Mar, the seaside track north of San Diego, will host the Breeders’ Cup.
